 illustrator tool tutorials

pen tool

i think the pen tool is a very basic illustrator skill to use. even though it is a basic skill for illustrator, i think that it can be tedious to do. in order for this basic skill to become easier for me, i will definitely have to spend some time using the tool and messing with stuff in the program to get the hang of it. i like that the video shows how the pen works with some other tools in illustrator, so you have a lot of flexibility with what you can do with it. i also like that it shows a trick to get the pen lines to be more exact, because i am a bit of a perfectionist so having a reference for how to do that is helpful.

custom fonts with Fontself

i think that using an extension to take analog handwriting and turning it into your own font on your computer is very cool and gives a lot more creative freedom. i think this will be relatively simple to use, as you simply transfer your images into adobe, create vectors out of the shapes, and then can use your font as you wish. although, this tutorial uses both photoshop and illustrator, so this using multiple programs. it's interesting to see how the adobe programs can be used together to create something more complex.

easily create complex geometric shapes

i think that this is a cool skill to have, because i like complex geometric shapes, and would enjoy using these for a logo or a background design on something. this tutorial uses skills like layering, the ellipse tool, and grouping items together. this looks to be combining some simple illustrator concepts, so it should be overall easy once i hopefully get the hang of using the program.
