PROJECT - ANIMATION
animation
artist's statement
i decided to create an animation of the retro tennis game. i was inspired by my love of old arcade games, and i thought it would be fun to make a little short of it. looking back, some frames moved a little faster than i would like, so i may go back and adjust the frames' timing.to do this, i started by creating my main elements- the two paddles, a ball, and a GAME OVER. i wanted to use a pixel font, but since photoshop doesn't automatically come with that, i downloaded it for free from adobe. for majority of this, i used the tween tool to make the frames move smoothly. to do this, i would make my starting position, copy the frame, move the elements to the second position, then i would select both frames and tween them.
about halfway through animating the game itself, i realized that i didn't want the game to start right away, so i could give a little more context. i decided to create
a loading / idle screen (like how the old DVD logo would bounce around). for this, i made a print of my tagbrush logo, which i then also moved and tweened. i also decided to make a START / EXIT menu. when i started doing these, i realized that the words would go onto all the frames. at the start i went through each individually and hid the words, but then realized i could shift and select all the frames, so i did that through the rest of the times i wanted to remove something i added later.

with my credits, i put my name, FMX-210, and spring 2023 on a single text block, which i then tweened across the screen. i decided to do this because it has a lot smoother look because of having less moving parts.
This is cool. At the beginning, I thought it was some sort of video game. I love how it reflect on your interest of arcade game. Even the colors gives arcade vibes especially this deep blue. Great job!
